December 10, 2022

Artist Kim Kang-yong, whose hyper-realistic brick paintings symbolically illuminate diverse realities of life, shares his artistic vision and message with a solo exhibition.

On the 10th, Studio Kki announced that Kim Kang-yong's solo exhibition, "Brick Aesthetics, Encounter with Hyper-Reality," will be held until February 20th of next year.

Artist Kim Kang-yong is a painter who has been showcasing his works as part of the hyper-realistic painting group "Reality and Reality," which he formed in 1978 with Kwon Su-an, Kim Yong-jin, Seo Jeong-chan, Song Yun-hee, Jo Deok-ho, Joo Tae-seok, and Ji Seok-cheol. Since being spotlighted at the 1999 Cologne Art Fair in Germany, he has been receiving attention on a global level, including in China and the United States.

The solo exhibition, 'Brick Aesthetics, Encounter with Extreme Reality', is an exhibition where you can see various new works painted in various ways, along with artist Kim Kang-yong's unique method of expression, which uses clay and sand as materials and the oriental ink painting technique.

In particular, the rectangular square brick paintings, completed by realizing a jagged, multidimensional pattern using a combination of sand and paint, are Kim Kang-yong's trademark, and comprehensively show the artist's physical activities and the intellectual socio-historical structure behind them.

Artist Kim Kang-yong's solo exhibition, 'The Aesthetics of Bricks, Encounter with Hyperrealism', will be held at Studio Kki in Paju, Gyeonggi Province from today until February 20th of next year (10:00 AM - 5:30 PM, closed on Sundays and Mondays), and admission is free.

Lee Kwang-ki, CEO of Studio Kki (actor and art director), said, "Artist Kim Kang-yong, who has received many love calls from overseas since his exhibition at Seonggok Art Museum last year, uses sand, a 'discovered object,' to draw the 'hyperreality of bricks' that connects with today. Behind the brick aesthetic that is more powerful than reality, there are various variations of human life." He added, "Through this exhibition, 'Brick Aesthetics, Encounter with Hyperreality,' you will be able to encounter the 'dual variation of emotion and reason' hidden behind the 'recreated bricks.'"
