Gallery Chang (Director: Chang JunHwan), a new gallery located on 55th Street in Manhattan, New York, USA, will hold an exhibition titled 'KIM KANG YONG MASTERPIECE' to commemorate its opening from February 7th to 28th.
Artist Kim Kang Yong (74) moved from the hyper-realistic "Reality+Place" series of the 1970s and 1980s to the "Reality+Image" series in the 1990s. Since the 2000s, he has been evaluated as having made a leap forward in blurring the boundaries between the concrete and the abstract.
Following his first exhibition at the New Hope Gallery in New York in 2006, Kim Kang Yong has been attracting attention at major premium art fairs in the U.S. and Europe, and is consistently traded in the global art auction market, including Sotheby's, Christie's, and Auction House.
The exhibition "Kim Kang Yong Masterpiece" marks Kim Kang Yong's return to New York after 18 years. The exhibit primarily features recent works from his "Reality + Image" series, each featuring a single, brick-like square occupying just one or two spaces.
Kim Kang Yong's works are housed in the collections of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Korea, the Seoul Museum of Art, and the Rederick Eisman Art Foundation in Los Angeles, USA.
Gallery Director Chang JunHwan expressed his ambition, saying, “The opening of this gallery in the heart of New York will continue to serve as a cultural hub that introduces the works of representative Korean contemporary artists, led by artist Kim Kang Yong, to the world, contributing to the growth of the Korean art industry and strengthening of the nation’s image.”
Since 2015, Chang JunHwan has been traveling between the United States and Korea, serving as an exhibition advisor for renowned commercial galleries and as the Director of the Cultural ICT Center for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
